For my Song Hall... "Space Is Gonna Do Me Good" by Frank Black
From the great Teenager of the Year album... don't know what the song is about but I think maybe it's about alien abduction somehow.
The islands of Phoenix in 2016
Are making it up with hardihood
I'm done with adult matters
I'm doing the catapult
I've been meaning to get out of Hollywood
Space is gonna do me good
I always have to turn this way up and play the first few seconds over and over a few times whenever it comes on my iPhone. One of the most exciting songs I know. Love the weird lyrics too. From the great album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars...
So turn it up and play the beginning (at least) a few times yourself.
Japan's new First Lady 'flew to Venus with UFO'
Japan's new First Lady is enlivening the nation's grey-suited world of politics with colourful claims that she met a UFO in a dream and was whisked away to Venus
Miyuki Hatoyama, 66, the charismatic wife of the leader of the incoming Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), has also described how she met Tom Cruise in a former life and enjoys "eating" the sun for energy.
Writing in a book published last year, she said: "While my body was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus. It was a very beautiful place and it was really green."
Her extra-terrestrial experiences ties in neatly with her husband Yukio Hatoyama's nickname "The Alien" which came about due to his large eyes.
Earlier this year, Mrs Hatoyama also told a TV programme that she had met Tom Cruise in a previous life.
While she cautioned the interviewer not to take her too seriously, she said: "I know he was Japanese in a previous life.
"I was with him then. So he would recognise me when I see him and say 'long time, no see!'"
On the same talk show, she also described her unusual habit of "eating the sun".
Raising her arms into the air, she said: "I also eat the sun. Like this, hum, hum, hum. It gives me enormous energy. My husband has recently started doing that too."
I dig Frank Black, and if I remember correctly, I got into the Pixies backwards by first liking his solo stuff from Teenager of the Year in the '90's...
Anyway, regardless, the Pixies were one of the great alternative music pioneers. I like that soft loud soft stuff they did which Nirvana picked up on and took to the world.
I also like the fact that they were from where I'm from... Massachusetts... and they went to UMass at just about the same time I was there. That's pretty cool.
The music of Black Francis (aka Frank Black, aka Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV) is influenced by stuff I like... Brian Wilson, surf music, punk, the Ramones, UFO's, murder, mental illness... He writes cool cryptic and off-beat songs.
Nowadays, after having broken up in the early '90's and then recently reunited in the past couple years, they're touring around... and hopefully I'll be alert enough to get some tickets one of these days. They're apparently coming to Glasgow in a few months but I guess they're sold out....
For the Song Hall of Fame... "Indian Love Call" by Slim Whitman
This is Slim Whitman's rendition of the song probably better known as being sung by Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. You know the one... "When I'm calling YOOOOooouuuuu...". When Slim sings it, it's like from some wierd hillbilly yodeling planet beyond the known universe.
From the Times Online:
Mathematicians are perplexed after a highly complex crop circle appeared in a Wiltshire field - depicting a fundamental mathematical symbol.
The circle is, apparently, a coded image representing a complex mathematical number — the first ten digits of pi — and even astrophysicists admit they find it “mind-boggling”.
The circular pattern was created in a barley field near Barbury Castle, an Iron Age hill fort, earlier this month. Measuring around 46m (150ft) in diameter, it has had crop circle enthusiasts and experts stumped.
The symbol was identified eventually by Mike Reed, a retired astrophysicist who contacted Lucy Pringle, a crop circle photographer and expert, with an explanation.
Maths codes and geometric patterns have long been an important factor in crop circle formations — one of the most famous formations ever created showed the image of a complex set of fractals known as The Julia Set, in a field near Stonehenge, 12 years ago.
Now if I can just come up with something to write about.
Well... you'd think being unemployed during this summer would've led to all sorts of fun adventures and trips... but it hasn't really turned out like that. The horse and the dog tended to keep us pretty local. Meggie the Wonder Horse needs to be put out and back in the stable daily... which I've mentioned a lot on here previously... because she had laminitis.
Speaking of Meggie the Wonder Horse, I've entered her in the fantasy football league this year. It's early days yet, but she's not doing too badly so far. Better than me.
This coffee place is pretty crowded. It's annoying because the tables are too close together and I have to shift a little every time someone tries to get passed.
(Just then a flying saucer swoops down and takes Darrin away saving him from having to think of something else to write about in his journal)
I watched the CNN / You Tube Democratic candidate debates the other night.
I often match up with Dennis Kucinich on "selection website things" but I've barely heard of him so usually disregarded it... but I must say after watching him on the debate, I'm more proud to be a Kucinich-match. He's a puny little guy, but he was pretty good when he opened his mouth. I looked him up on Wikipedia and found out he's got like a 30 year old British wife despite him being something like 60 years old or so. Pretty cool, pretty neat.
The debates confirmed my dislike for Hillary Clinton... and I'm not too keen on Barack Obama either. They're too slick by half. I wasn't too impressed by Joe Biden, John Edwards or Bill Richardson either, who I generally thought I liked. No concrete reasons to give, just a feeling. Mike Gravel was kind of funny because he kept making comments about not getting any air time.
I was only half watching, to be honest. But I like Kucinich, altho he has absolutely no chance of winning. I'll probably end up voting for Ross Perot or Ralph Nader again.
Conspiracy theorist David Icke claims that reptilian humanoids are the force behind a worldwide conspiracy directed at manipulation and control of humanity. He contends that most of our world's leaders, from George W. Bush to members of the British royal family, are in fact seven-foot tall, blood-drinking reptilians.
David Icke has devoted himself since 1990 to researching "who and what is really controlling the world." He is the author of 20 books explaining his views.
At the heart of Icke's theories is the view that the world is ruled by a secret group called the "Global Elite" or "Illuminati." In 1999, he published The Biggest Secret, in which he wrote that the Illuminati are a race of reptilian humanoids known as the Babylonian Brotherhood, and that many prominent figures are reptilian, including George W. Bush, Queen Elizabeth II, Kris Kristofferson, and Boxcar Willie.

Known as the Talmud of Jmmanuel (the “J” symbol is pronounced with the short "i" sound as in Immanuel), the TJ, as it is called, shares one feature with the Gospel of Judas – Judas Iscariot was no betrayer. Instead, he was the trusted writer of the TJ. The TJ is much more comprehensive than the Gospel of Judas, while indicating that the man we know as Jesus was originally named Jmmanuel, that he survived the crucifixion and then traveled through several countries with his mother Mary, his brother Judas-Thomas and Judas Iscariot, that Mary died while on their trek to northern India and was buried in Pakistan, that Jmmanuel married and had numerous descendants, and that he died at over 100 years of age and was buried near Srinagar, Kashmir.
